Diabetes Support Services
Our diabetes support services are aimed at letting you fully enjoy the body that you're in and helping you and your family cope with all the lifestyle changes required.
LIVING WITH DIABETES SHOULD NOT CHANGE YOU. IT SHOULD JUST WAKE YOU UP TO BEING BETTER…AT BEING YOU.
Being diagnosed with diabetes will no doubt have some life altering consequences, as you will have to start doing things differently. And it may very well be different from most other people you know.
At Diabetes West we’ll always be there to remind you just how cool it actually is to be different. And essentially, you will learn to live life like everyone should, really.
We will help awaken you to how your body responds to the way you live, the amount of stress you endure, the choices you make, the food you eat and the amount of activity you embark on. We will be your shoulder to cry on when you become a tad depressed.
We will happily take your family members who live with you under our wing too and show them how to support you, emotionally and otherwise, while you’re going through the changes you need to be a better YOU. And while they will have to deal with that, we will support THEM.
To this end, we regularly have support group sessions where you, your family, some of our other friends have a safe zone to pour your hearts out, share, listen and learn from each other.
These group sessions are a complimentary service to all our friends who are living with diabetes. To see when our next sessions will take place, click here to view our calendar of activities or click here to speak to us about how you can join.
NOBODY ACTUALLY WANTS TO GROW UP. CELEBRATE YOUR YOUTH.
We just luuuurve kids, and teenage ‘monsters.’ At Diabetes West we facilitate the participation of many of the activities at Youth With Diabetes (YWD). Many of the YWD educational activities are aimed at helping our youngsters cope with the nitty gritty of diabetes and to have fun while doing it.
Besides, there is always a good reason for a party, isn’t there? These activities for example include the annual youth camp, leadership courses and fund raising events. One of our own, Tamika Daniels attended and this is what she had to say:
